What should we expect?
o Counselor to camper ratio is 1 to 8; Overall staff ratio is 1 to 4
o Your child will be assigned to a cabin of like age and gender with 1
counselor and 7 other campers
o During each youth camp session campers experience an overnight
campout in tents with their cabin groups

  • From a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures & communities

  • Carefully selected, screened and trained (Tall Turf completes thorough background checks using State and National databases)
 

  • A counselor to camper ratio of 1 to 8; an overall staff:camper ratio of 1 to 4 or less
  • They will be in a  cabin with up to 8 campers of like age and gender along with 1 counselor
  • One overnight campout in tents with their cabin groups
  • Attend classes of their own choosing as well as classes they choose as a cabin
  • Twice daily they can choose to participate in an activity such as swimming, canoeing, arts and crafts, playing board games or reading in the library, visiting the nature center, spending time at the barn with the animals, and more
  • Participate in an evening activity with the entire camp at the end of each day
  • Enjoy times each day learning about and experiencing God's love during morning chapel, cabin and meal time devotions, practicing Bible memory verse chants, singing praise and prayer songs, and more
  • Eat three family style meals every day in the dining hall setting with their cabin groups. They is also a time to have snacks in the afternoon
  • Observe, have fun with, and learn from staff who are mostly young adults committed to being Christian role models for the campers
  • Develop friendships with kids and staff from backgrounds different than their own

  • Tall Turf is committed to providing a safe, peaceful, and positive Christian environment for everyone
  • Tall Turf has more than 40 years of knowledge and experience in operating and providing a quality camp program
  • Staff are trained in conflict resolution, behavior management, and emergency procedures if needed
  • A Red Cross Certified Health Officer is on property 24/7 along with Red Cross Certified lifeguards.
  • Any and all visitors are required to see the Camp Director before being permitted on site
  • A swim test is required for every swimmer
  • All boaters are required to wear life jackets
  • Parents/guardians are required to show picture identification before camp staff will release their child at the end of each session.
  • Visited and licensed annually by a Licensing Consultant from Michigan's Department of Human Services
  • Accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA)
    • ACA accreditation means camp undergoes a thorough review of its operation—from staff qualifications and training to emergency management
    • In collaboration with experts from the field, ACA works to ensure that current practices at camp reflect the most up-to-date, research-based standards in camp operation and programming.

  • Camp Tall Turf is located on the shores of Lake Campbell, in Walkerville, MI.  (70 miles NW of Grand Rapids, MI)
  • It has 243 acres of forests, fields, and lake shore.
  • Hiking trails, campsites, and plant life in their natural habitats
  • Turtles, ducks, frogs, fish, and more
  • Dark star filled skies away from city lights
  • Bathrooms complete with toilets and a shower in each cabin
